It wasn't until the day after that, flicking through Emil Ruder's Typographie: A Manual of Design, that I found a similar thing that Matisse had done with the reduction of letters to their counters. Rand's first book, later expanded and published as 'A Designers Art'. Emil Ruder's Typography is the timeless textbook from which generations of typographer and graphic designers have learned their fundamentals. I recently collaborated with three other designers, Molly Hein, Catherine Grothe and Christina Rimstad, to create a conceptual response to Emil Ruder's text Typographie: A Manual of Design. In 1967, iconic typography pioneer Emil Ruder penned Typographie: A Manual of Design — a bold deviation from the conventions of his discipline and a visionary guide to the rules of his new typography.
